New Year's Progress for Aberdeen!

We have not updated this thread since last month, but we assure you that map progress is still taking place! A few updates for you in the meantime:

1. The road network that will be present for version 1.0 of the map has been fully completed!

As of the new year, we have completed the road network for the final area of the map that will be included in the first release. This area is the Waterfront Public Market, and will be serviced by both Route 7 and Route 17. This is going to be a heavy tourist area and will feature a pedestrian friendly environment.

This is the terminus bus loop that will be featured in the area. There will be scenery added in the very near future, and we can't wait to show you more of the progress as we continue detailing the area.

On the other side of the map, our other developer has been hard at work creating an authentic depot experience. Referring to the map (on the original thread), the Victoria Garage is located across the river from Pacific Central Station, and features a large complex for bus storage. It is one of many depots that will be featured in future versions of the map!

As you may also notice in the last screenshot, we are introducing a new AMB subsidiary to the world of Aberdeen named AirLink. This service, which features a repaint similar to the Sound Transit livery in Seattle in real life, will operate the express line that connects Aberdeen International Airport to the Waterfront district in Downtown Aberdeen. We will have more news about the fleet coming soon!

In other news, we have also revamped some of the older parts of the map from earlier in the development process. In particular, intersections from the earliest parts of the map are being upgraded so they better reflect a more realistic layout. The pictures below show the shoulder extension upgrade for the Washington/Norman/Broadway intersection (from the second post in this thread back in Summer 2020!)

2. In case you missed it, we released a care package a couple of weeks ago to get you ready for the map release!

While we were hard at work continuing progress on the map throughout the Christmas season, we also wanted to create something special for the community that has been so supportive of our efforts this past year. In light of this, we created a Christmas Care Package, which includes postcards and a custom splashscreen. Make sure to check that out if you haven't already!

3. Beta Testing applications have been released!

Since we are nearing the conclusion of the first release of the map, we are beginning to open applications for Beta Testing. Please note that the roll-out of the first beta is unlikely to happen before reading break/spring break, however, applications will be reviewed on a first-come-first-serve basis, as well as quality of application and experience in OMSI 2 development. We encourage everyone to apply, however, there will be a limited number of copies distributed for the beta program.

We are also hoping to involve the international OMSI 2 community in the Beta Testing program as we believe that input from players outside of the North American OMSI community is very valuable. If you are from Europe or any other place in the world, we would love to have you on the Beta Testing Team and would appreciate the feedback that you provide. Please do take the moment to apply for a position in Beta Testing!

4. Join the Discord server for the most up-to-date development news and screenshots!

This has been a long post, but finally, I would also like to encourage you to join the NorthWest Studios Discord Server. We post the most up-to-date information on this platform and the quickest way to follow our map progress is on this server! We would love for you to join us there!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post! We hope to have more great news for you soon!

this post was also published on the official OMSI 2 Forum here.
